In today’s fast-changing world, the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage in constructive dialogue is more important than ever.
Debate Botswana is a flagship initiative by Change Africa designed to empower Botswana’s youth with these vital skills. At its core, Debate Botswana goes beyond teaching students how to speak in public. It instills in them the ability to analyze complex issues, consider multiple perspectives, and present reasoned arguments. These are skills that prepare young people not just for academic success, but for active participation in society.
Debate Botswana offers:
- Workshops and Training – We organize workshops for schools and community groups to teach debate formats, research techniques, and argumentation skills.
- Competitions and Tournaments – We host regional and national tournaments that give young debaters a platform to showcase their talents.
- Mentorship Programs – Experienced debaters, lawyers, and educators volunteer as mentors to guide students in honing their abilities.
Since its launch, Debate Botswana has reached hundreds of students across the country. Participants report greater confidence, improved academic performance, and a deeper understanding of local and global issues. Many have gone on to represent Botswana at international competitions or take leadership roles in their communities.
Botswana’s future depends on citizens who can engage thoughtfully with big issues — from climate change to economic development. By investing in debate education, we are building a generation of thinkers, leaders, and changemakers.
